Pinetown

History

Established in 1850, Pinetown was named after the governor of Natal, Sir Benjamin Pine. The town was once known as a health resort and was used to house Boer women and children during the Second Boer War.

A number of German settlers made Pinetown their home and, as a result, the area of New Germany and the German Lutheran Church were founded.

Pinetown is approximately 45 km from the Dube Trade Port and King Shaka International Airport, while the Port of Durban is 28 km away.

Transport

Those who work in Pinetown are not short of public transport. There are several major taxi routes that run throughout the area. The Sarnia Metrorail Train Station on Stapleton Road also provides access to Durban, Umlazi, Stanger as well as other surrounding areas.

Pine Crest Centre is the biggest retail centre in town. Other nearby shopping malls in and around Pinetown include the Pinewalk Shopping Centre, St. Johns Centre, Sandy Centre, and the Kloof Village Mall.

The Curry O's, Potluck Restaurant, and Seven Seas Sushi are great restaurants in Pinetown.
